The Cholq’ij Calendar is a powerful tool for revealing natural cycles that relate to humans. By understanding the Nawal and number (energy) of each day, we are able to harmonize our lives and activities with the natural rhythm and order, advancing our personal and collective development. This tool requires more than an intellectual understanding; we realize it’s potential in our lives as we work with the energies on a daily basis.

Thanks to Denise Barrios, we are able to make this information more accessible by publishing the Nawal and number for each day, as well as an explanation for it’s meaning. This information is also being pushed out via social media.

5 Q’anil – Creation to Realization for Cholq’ij New Year

Nawal Q'anilQ’ANIL is the seed. It is the action in everything that we begin, in what we plant. A seed contains all the information of what will develop – for example a seed of avocado has all the information of this plant and when it grows it will be an avocado tree. In the context of existence, a seed is not seen only as the one that produces a plant, a fruit, or a flower; it is also the thoughts that sprout in the form of creation. It is the projects that we want to carry out and which, like the seed, contain all the information and features they need to develop. Just like the seed, our projects need to have a base and planning, a creative directionality to accomplish the purpose that we have outlined. In the concatenation of the Ch’umilal, the vision of the elders indicates that Q’anil is planting the seed of the new being. The being that we need to restructure according to this new era. This seed is part of the information, of all the experiences we have lived. It is planting a new ground, planting a new world and making that new world flourish. It is creating another world, literally. It is the seed of a new being in our being.  Q’anil also represents our children, who are the future of the human beings. Our children are the fruit of what we have done within the purpose of evolution of Mother Earth. Let’s remember that we are the sons and daughters of Mother Earth and through us she has experiences. Our destiny is bound to hers and for this reason the legacy that we are giving the new generations is important. We have to be clear about this, because there is an extraordinary technological advance (that has just begun), but we have neglected the essential part, the connection with our inner powers, the harmonious relationship with the environment. That is the real spirituality, we must guide both ourselves and our children toward this balance. Let’s plant that seed.

5 Q’anil – Today’s Maya Day Sign (Ch’umil)

Nawal Q'anilQ’anil means seed and life. It is the day to ask for the germination of sacred corn and everything else that Mother Nature produces; it is fertility in humans, plants and animals. Everything that begins on this day has a positive future. Number 5 is the energy of action which allows you to achieve anything you set your mind into. This day blooms with possibilities. Ask for the fruition of your projects so that they will bring you personal satisfaction and financial wellbeing.

During the Creation of the Universe 5 Q’anil created the great sewer of the great lagoon of the sea.

4 Kej – Creation to Realization for Cholq’ij New Year

Nawal KiejKEJ is the deer, which is the guardian of the forests and nature. It represents calmness and harmony. It is the harmonious consonance of creation that is manifested from a spark of fire that comes out of a bonfire, a particle of sand, a soft breeze, a drop of dew in the morning, to the cosmic dance of the universe. In the sequence of Creation and how we are influenced by the cosmic-telluric energies, Kej is the transmutation of everything that is prior to the creation of nature. It is like going back to see nature with other eyes, with an other perception. If we have awakened our senses, we can renew our sight! We can see with new eyes. We can hear the trees when they speak to us. We can understand what other living beings are telling us, everything takes a new perception. We are connected to everything that surrounds us, we become an integral part  of Creation. In the cycle change, the Job Ajaw (Fifth Sun), the new Katun that began on December 21, 2012, the vision of the Human Being is related to the Fifth Dimension, which is ruled by ether as an element. In this new cycle everything is charged with more subtleness. In this unfolding of the energies of Creation, according to this new era, we must reach that vision, we must become like the Ch’ol Winq, the complete human beings who have been able to return to the consciousness of nature, return to the Rax Kakulja (the green ray of Creation). Rax Kakulja is a whole and we are a part of that. Kej is returning to the simple, to the straightforward, but with another vision, with no judgement, but completely open and conscious, that is the purpose.

4 Kej -Today’s Maya Day Sign (Ch’umil)

Nawal KiejKej represents the deer that has one leg in each of the four cardinal points; it is balance and harmony, it is the energy that protects the natural world and which is called to maintain balance between humans and Mother Earth. Number 4 projects stability, firmness and security. Today the convergence of these two energies brings stability, any project that you start or work in today will enjoy the protection and steadiness of 4 Kej. During the Creation of the Universe

4 Kej was the day in which the spirit came.

3 Kame – Creation to Realization for Cholq’ij New Year

Nawal KemeKAME is known as “death”. People have given more importance to the physical death, the moment in which our consciousness or our soul leave our body. We have been taught that physical death is the end of our being, and according to each tradition the spirit has a different destiny. The elders teach us that we change of dimension in a more subtle level. Kame, however, is not only related to the physical death, it is also the changes we have when we overcome emotional states. In a rational sense, it is when we change ways of thinking that limit us. In the spiritual sense, it is when we free ourselves from dogmatism and punishing beliefs, to take a path that leads us to coming closer to the divine essence, to the encounter with our inner being. Kame marks the cycles of our life. It is the one to open and close them. Cycles such as work and sentimental relationships. It is the one to close the cycle of being immersed in systems that only limit us. This Ch’umil brings us closer to the ancestors that have passed and who are now in other dimensions. It is the one that opens the space with the grandfathers and grandmothers who are considered beings of complete wisdom. When we open the connection with these entities, we will have the best guidance for what we need to do. They are considered minor divinities that are in charge of human beings. Being connected and asking for their guidance makes our life easier. In the concatenation of the Ch’umilal that generated Creation, Kame is the challenge to overcome; it is the one that gives us certainty and strength to face the changes. It is leaving behind the being that we have been to begin a cycle of the new being that has all the consciousness and potential we have as humans. It is the teacher that teaches us through accidents, challenges, and everything we call suffering, but all of this is to guide us to our purpose. Kame connects us to the memory of previous existences. It allows us to access the records of everything that exists, of every memory and thought that has existed, exists, or will exist. It is the key to understanding how and why we are at this level, and how to take the reins of our life. Kame gives us the certainty.

3 Kame – Today’s Maya Day Sign (Ch’umil)

Nawal KemeKame is birth and death, and all the cycles that manifest during this period; it also represents the invisible guardians, the power and strength of our ancestors who advise us and protect us. Number 3 symbolizes our creative energy; it is our connection to the three levels; underworld, earth, and cosmos. Today you have a special connection to your ancestors, 3 Kame opens the channels to reveal their ancestral wisdom.

During the Creation of the Universe 3 Kame created death.

2 Kan – Creation to Realization for Cholq’ij New Year

Nawal KanKAN is the energy, which is represented by the serpent. It is related to Kukulkan or Q’uq’umatz, the feathered serpent, which on a spiritual level symbolizes the energy that transmutes us from the earthly to action, which allows us to elevate to the Kaj (the first sky). Kan is the flight of the Quetzal. Its strength is deposited in the coccyx and it moves through the spine, elevating itself to the brain to activate consciousness. Kan is the power that transmutes knowledge into wisdom, thought into reality. This Ch’umil provokes action; it is connected to one of the Four Rays of Creation, Jun Rakan Kakulja – the ray of the mega spiral of the Universe. Kan is the energetic movement; this means our energy (Kan) and the energy of the Cosmos. Kan is the energetic transmutation which after freeing us allows us to rise to other levels, as far as we want to go (the 13 Skies). It is entering to unknown worlds and dimensions. Even though we know intuitively about these levels, we have the limitation of fear, which halts us from breaking the structures. Activating Kan is an accomplishment we must fight to reach, because the wisdom that this Ch’umil brings is to allow us to see those things that reason prevents us from seeing; it is to unlearn what we have been taught to maintain the structures. When we become aware or we have the determination, we reach that what is called “enlightenment”. But here we are going to unknown grounds, and since we are not connected this brings fear to not doing what is right, to not taking the right path. We have to go within us, there we can remove the limitations, we can break the structures of the mind, society and the system, and we can then reach the purest and more subtle energy. Kan gives us the power, the energy to achieve this, but we must work with determination to reach our Purpose of Life. Our responsibility is to give meaning to our Creation.

2 Kan – Today’s Maya Day Sign (Ch’umil)

Nawal KanKan is the serpent of fire whose energy resides at the base of the spinal column. It is the force of life, the movement, and the sexual energy. Number 2 represents duality and union, it is a favorable energy for relationships. Use the energies of this day to remember the good times you have shared with your love partner; leave behind any sadness or pain you may have suffered in the past. This is a day for connection and passion.

During the Creation of the Universe on a day 2 Kan bad things rose and they could be seen in the eyes of people.

1 K’at – Creation to Realization for Cholq’ij New Year

Nawal K'atK’AT This Ch’umil represents the ties, the entanglements, everything that traps us, that does not allow us to be free, that limits our spontaneity and our determination. It is called the net. These limitations come from the rules that we have accepted ―some of them completely absurd― which come from our family, our school, the system, or which are created by ourselves. It is in K’at that we must untie the knots of our reality and break the limits that prevent our development. We are so tied up to this reality that we cannot see that everything is an illusion which we can configure. We have learned to configure things the way we see them, and these are a reality of shape, size, weight, and dimension. It is the synaptic creation we human beings have formed, every being that has existed, exists, or will exist. All of this is a great illusion. We are so deeply involved in the system that we do not dare to break this. Magic, vision, healing; they are only believing that you can do it. The important thing is to remember that this is a reality that we create. The elders visualized this thousands of years ago, they defined the energies that affect reality and because of these they gave each day a space, a form; they were observing for thousands of years and they saw which were the energies of the beginning, of the path… K’at is twining, it is catching, but the most important aspect of K’at is that people break and untie the knots; it is realizing that this is knotted and we have to untie the knots to free ourselves.

1 K’at – Today’s Ch’umil and Trecena Prayer

Nawal K'atK’at represents the net that is used to store those things that will nurture us in the future, not only physical things, but also what is invisible, such as our memories and experiences; it has the power to unite the people and elements required to do what we need to do. Number 1 is a creative and innovative energy. Throughout the course of this trecena (thirteen days) use the power provided by 1 K’at to consolidate those ideas that have come to mind and to catch the people and elements that can help you develop them.

During the Creation of the Universe 1 K’at had low spirits for the bad things it had created.

Prayer from Don Pedro Ixchop

Great Spirit of the Ajaw of the Day K’at grant me the development and expansion of my thoughts. I ask you that nothing can disturb my heart and my thoughts; that no one can damage my life and my destiny, Heart of the Sky and Heart of Mother Earth. I ask you that my feet, my hands, my thoughts and my intelligence are not tangled before your presence. That my enemies are not aimed to lock me with their pretexts, that they won’t be able to lock me or my family’s intelligence, words, feet, hands, body, or eyes, Ajaw. Give me the freedom to pray outside of the prisons of the enemies of your Sacred Spirituality, Ajaw of the Sky and the Earth. I ask you that all the physical and mental prisons are vanished and destroyed by your power, Father Ajaw. I ask you to grant freedom to any enemy intending to cast their nets to lock and to lie to your creatures, Ajaw, so that they can serve you every day. You know that I offer my faith through my prayers and my offerings in the ceremonies that I celebrate, Father. Do not allow my enemies to bother or torment me in my mission to follow you Heart of the Sky and Heart of Mother Earth.

Maya Elder Pedro IxchopI ask you to untie any illness, whether physical, emotional, or mental. Relieve me from all pain in my veins, my arteries, my body, my mind, and my heart. Relieve me from all pain in my internal and external organs. Take away all swelling and excessive temperament in my body, my mind, and my heart. I ask you that any excessive pain will be untied, discarded, and eliminated by your power, Ajaw. Maltiox, Maltiox, Maltiox, and four times Maltiox.

Ajaw Great Father or Supreme Being
