The Cholq’ij Calendar is a powerful tool for revealing natural cycles that relate to humans. By understanding the Nawal and number (energy) of each day, we are able to harmonize our lives and activities with the natural rhythm and order, advancing our personal and collective development. This tool requires more than an intellectual understanding; we realize it’s potential in our lives as we work with the energies on a daily basis.

Thanks to Denise Barrios, we are able to make this information more accessible by publishing the Nawal and number for each day, as well as an explanation for it’s meaning. This information is also being pushed out via social media.

7 Tz’i’- Creation to Realization for Cholq’ij New Year

Nawal Tz'i'TZ’I’ is the law. It is the Supreme law, the law of the Order of Creation, of the Natural Order. It is the law of consciousness “the respect for everything that exists is the respect you have for yourself.” In the continuum of the energies that were manifested in the origin of Creation, Tz’i’ is the spiritual authority. It symbolizes the Divine energies, the Cosmic Authorities that gave shape to this dimension and to the levels of Kaj and Xib’alb’ay. B’itol, Tz’aqol, Alom, and K’ajolom are the creating deities that delineated the vision with which the Najt (space-time) was configured. Here every thought and Creation, everything that was given shape, and especially everyone that was given the Breath of Life exists. Tz’i’ is the adviser, the secretary, the scribe, the one that keeps record of everything that has happened. And we have access to everything that has been thought and created, to what we are going to do with our life. We are that authority which will take responsibility for our existence, for the Creation we make of it. We determine our destiny, we have the power to undo the limitations, the problems. We have the power to break with the routine, with others doing the thinking for us, dictating to us what to do. The routine, with no time or space, does not allow us to be aware of our power. Tz’i’ is the colophon of this sequence of the energies of the days, and it gives us the power of freeing ourselves from the limits that are generated by a vision based on the material, on reason. Tz’i’ gives us the power. It directs us to the true reality. It guides our inner being and it expands us to the Cosmic. Every person becomes a spiritual authority. Everyone is connected to the Supreme authorities of the Underworld and the Supra-World. This cycle gives us the opportunity to grow, to reach the purpose of being. We are a part of the prophetic times of the Job Ajaw. Spirituality of these times has a name, that name is “Action”. The last time the Grandfather came down from the mountain he only left a message: “Lets return to being humans…”

7 Tz’i’ – Today’s Maya Day Sign (Ch’umil)

Nawal Tz'i'Tz’i’ represents the spiritual law and the law of man, it is justice and authority. It relates to the written word, especially to sacred writings. Number 7 symbolizes a final step before the summit; it is equilibrium and harmony. Today is Wuqub’ (7) Tz’i’, the last day of the 260 day Cholq’ij Calendar. Tomorrow we will celebrate the Jab’nal (New Year). The counting of the days begins on a day 1 B’atz’ and after one veintena (20 days) it is 8 B’atz’, the first day of the Cholq’ij year. Thank the Father and Mother of the Universe for all the blessings you have received during the past year and ask that this new cycle of 260 days will bring balance and harmony to your mind, your heart, your body and your spirit so that you can continue developing on your path of life.

During the Creation of the Universe the day 7 Tz’i’ brought the words.

6 Toj – Creation to Realization for Cholq’ij New Year

Nawal TojTOJ is the Sacred Fire, it is the ceremonial fire that is lit to give thanks for our life and for everything that we have received throughout our existence, for what we consider good or bad. Everything is part of the actions and choices we have made, these have taken us to this moment of our evolution, to this magical experience of life! In the sequence of the conformation of Creation of this “reality”, Toj is purification. It is the seed of Q’anil which becomes the Sun, the new fire, the fire that transmutes, burns, regenerates and leaves the essence. The Toj is an act of consciousness,of rejoicement, of gratefulness. We don’t have to look at this day as the day of payment for the negative things we have done, whether consciously or not. Toj is the action of the ceremony, the candle we light, the prayer we pray. It’s energy is guided by gratefulness, to the encounter of our Spirit with the divine flame that connects us with the WHOLE. Toj is manifested in Tojil, Awilix, Jaqawitz, and Niq’aj Taq’aj, because it is the energy of the four B’alam’eb (Jaguar Semi-Gods). Each of the B’alam’eb made its Sacred Fire and each fire was different, later the fires were united, after each made his own fire. Tojil is the fire of B’alam K’itze’ and it represents Father Sun over the face of the Earth. Awilix is the fire of B’alam Aq’ab’, it is the fire of the earth and it is related to Q’aq’ Alom (magma), which is connected to the pure energy of Mother Earth. Jaqawitz is the fire of Majukutaj, this fire is connected to the air, to the space between the earth and the Sky, to everything that exists there. Niq’aj Taq’aj is the fire of Ik’i’ B’alam, which is the water that brings us rain. The fire forms shapes in the ceremony, it gives us signals, it is the one that shows us the path. It is through the Sacred Fire that the knowledge of the Wise Elders is revealed. Toj is the purifier of our existence, the one we must turn to to be prepared for this special moment we are living, these “Times of change, the arrival to a New Era of the Cycles of Creation.”

6 Toj – Today’s Maya Day Sign (Ch’umil)

Nawal TojToj is the law of cause and effect; it is a day to make offerings and the energy that repays us for all the good or bad we have done in our life. It is the Sacred Ceremonial Fire, the fire of the Spirit of the Ajaw, Heart of the Sky and Heart of the Earth. Number 6 entails learning and responsibilities; it is a day in which to thank the Creator and Maker for everything we have received. Connect to the energies of this day and light a candle to thank the Great Father for all that life has given you.

During the Creation of the Universe 6 Toj filled up the valleys with soil; it did it when the earth had not awakened.

5 Q’anil – Creation to Realization for Cholq’ij New Year

Nawal Q'anilQ’ANIL is the seed. It is the action in everything that we begin, in what we plant. A seed contains all the information of what will develop – for example a seed of avocado has all the information of this plant and when it grows it will be an avocado tree. In the context of existence, a seed is not seen only as the one that produces a plant, a fruit, or a flower; it is also the thoughts that sprout in the form of creation. It is the projects that we want to carry out and which, like the seed, contain all the information and features they need to develop. Just like the seed, our projects need to have a base and planning, a creative directionality to accomplish the purpose that we have outlined. In the concatenation of the Ch’umilal, the vision of the elders indicates that Q’anil is planting the seed of the new being. The being that we need to restructure according to this new era. This seed is part of the information, of all the experiences we have lived. It is planting a new ground, planting a new world and making that new world flourish. It is creating another world, literally. It is the seed of a new being in our being.  Q’anil also represents our children, who are the future of the human beings. Our children are the fruit of what we have done within the purpose of evolution of Mother Earth. Let’s remember that we are the sons and daughters of Mother Earth and through us she has experiences. Our destiny is bound to hers and for this reason the legacy that we are giving the new generations is important. We have to be clear about this, because there is an extraordinary technological advance (that has just begun), but we have neglected the essential part, the connection with our inner powers, the harmonious relationship with the environment. That is the real spirituality, we must guide both ourselves and our children toward this balance. Let’s plant that seed.

5 Q’anil – Today’s Maya Day Sign (Ch’umil)

Nawal Q'anilQ’anil means seed and life. It is the day to ask for the germination of sacred corn and everything else that Mother Nature produces; it is fertility in humans, plants and animals. Everything that begins on this day has a positive future. Number 5 is the energy of action which allows you to achieve anything you set your mind into. This day blooms with possibilities. Ask for the fruition of your projects so that they will bring you personal satisfaction and financial wellbeing.

During the Creation of the Universe 5 Q’anil created the great sewer of the great lagoon of the sea.

4 Kej – Creation to Realization for Cholq’ij New Year

Nawal KiejKEJ is the deer, which is the guardian of the forests and nature. It represents calmness and harmony. It is the harmonious consonance of creation that is manifested from a spark of fire that comes out of a bonfire, a particle of sand, a soft breeze, a drop of dew in the morning, to the cosmic dance of the universe. In the sequence of Creation and how we are influenced by the cosmic-telluric energies, Kej is the transmutation of everything that is prior to the creation of nature. It is like going back to see nature with other eyes, with an other perception. If we have awakened our senses, we can renew our sight! We can see with new eyes. We can hear the trees when they speak to us. We can understand what other living beings are telling us, everything takes a new perception. We are connected to everything that surrounds us, we become an integral part  of Creation. In the cycle change, the Job Ajaw (Fifth Sun), the new Katun that began on December 21, 2012, the vision of the Human Being is related to the Fifth Dimension, which is ruled by ether as an element. In this new cycle everything is charged with more subtleness. In this unfolding of the energies of Creation, according to this new era, we must reach that vision, we must become like the Ch’ol Winq, the complete human beings who have been able to return to the consciousness of nature, return to the Rax Kakulja (the green ray of Creation). Rax Kakulja is a whole and we are a part of that. Kej is returning to the simple, to the straightforward, but with another vision, with no judgement, but completely open and conscious, that is the purpose.

4 Kej -Today’s Maya Day Sign (Ch’umil)

Nawal KiejKej represents the deer that has one leg in each of the four cardinal points; it is balance and harmony, it is the energy that protects the natural world and which is called to maintain balance between humans and Mother Earth. Number 4 projects stability, firmness and security. Today the convergence of these two energies brings stability, any project that you start or work in today will enjoy the protection and steadiness of 4 Kej. During the Creation of the Universe

4 Kej was the day in which the spirit came.

3 Kame – Creation to Realization for Cholq’ij New Year

Nawal KemeKAME is known as “death”. People have given more importance to the physical death, the moment in which our consciousness or our soul leave our body. We have been taught that physical death is the end of our being, and according to each tradition the spirit has a different destiny. The elders teach us that we change of dimension in a more subtle level. Kame, however, is not only related to the physical death, it is also the changes we have when we overcome emotional states. In a rational sense, it is when we change ways of thinking that limit us. In the spiritual sense, it is when we free ourselves from dogmatism and punishing beliefs, to take a path that leads us to coming closer to the divine essence, to the encounter with our inner being. Kame marks the cycles of our life. It is the one to open and close them. Cycles such as work and sentimental relationships. It is the one to close the cycle of being immersed in systems that only limit us. This Ch’umil brings us closer to the ancestors that have passed and who are now in other dimensions. It is the one that opens the space with the grandfathers and grandmothers who are considered beings of complete wisdom. When we open the connection with these entities, we will have the best guidance for what we need to do. They are considered minor divinities that are in charge of human beings. Being connected and asking for their guidance makes our life easier. In the concatenation of the Ch’umilal that generated Creation, Kame is the challenge to overcome; it is the one that gives us certainty and strength to face the changes. It is leaving behind the being that we have been to begin a cycle of the new being that has all the consciousness and potential we have as humans. It is the teacher that teaches us through accidents, challenges, and everything we call suffering, but all of this is to guide us to our purpose. Kame connects us to the memory of previous existences. It allows us to access the records of everything that exists, of every memory and thought that has existed, exists, or will exist. It is the key to understanding how and why we are at this level, and how to take the reins of our life. Kame gives us the certainty.

3 Kame – Today’s Maya Day Sign (Ch’umil)

Nawal KemeKame is birth and death, and all the cycles that manifest during this period; it also represents the invisible guardians, the power and strength of our ancestors who advise us and protect us. Number 3 symbolizes our creative energy; it is our connection to the three levels; underworld, earth, and cosmos. Today you have a special connection to your ancestors, 3 Kame opens the channels to reveal their ancestral wisdom.

During the Creation of the Universe 3 Kame created death.
