The heritage left to us by the great Mayan Grandfathers and Grandmothers reminds us that in the deep relationship we have with the Cosmos and Nature we find the strength and wisdom that creates spaces where the development and expansion of our being can emerge. That in that harmony, cooperation, and union that we experience with the Heart of the Sky and the Heart of Mother Earth we nurture with power our processes. This day in which the energy of the Solstice arrives to celebrate the light of Father Sun that illuminates our paths, gives us life, and at the same time leads us to recognize the light that resides within each one of us, invites us to put into practice this teaching of living in communication with the Sky and the Earth. 

The wisdom of the Mayan ancestors tells us that in the same way that the cycles of Grandmother Moon have an influence on us and on Mother Earth, we can align ourselves with the cycles of the Sun throughout the year, as these are also connected to the cycles of life. Today that in the northern hemisphere we celebrate the Summer Solstice and the Sun gives us the longest day of the year, we receive it in celebration and joy, we celebrate that the Sun brings us enough light for the growth of life, that the rain comes to nourish the Earth, that it is a time when we receive the necessary sustenance for the growth and evolution of our body and spirit. El legado que nos dejaron los grandes abuelos y abuelas Mayas nos recuerda que en la profunda relación que tenemos con el Cósmos y la Naturaleza encontramos esa fuerza y sabiduría que abre espacios para que surja el desarrollo y expansión de nuestro ser. Que en esa armonía, cooperacion y unión que experimentamos con el Corazón del Cielo y el Corazón de la Madre Tierra nutrimos con poder nuestros procesos. Este día en que la energía del Solsticio llega para celebrar la luz del Padre Sol que ilumina nuestros senderos, nos da vida y que a su vez nos lleva a reconocer la luz que reside dentro de cada uno de nosotros, nos invita a poner en práctica esa enseñanza de vivir en comunicación con el Cielo y la Tierra. 

La sabiduría de los ancestros Mayas nos habla de que en la misma manera en la que los ciclos de la Abuela Luna tienen una influencia sobre nosotros y sobre la Madre Tierra, podemos alinearnos con los ciclos del Sol a lo largo del año, pues estos también se vinculan a los ciclos de la vida. Hoy que en el hemisferio norte celebramos el Solsticio de Verano y el Sol nos regala el día mas largo del año, lo recibimos en celebración y alegría, celebramos que el Sol nos trae suficiente luz para el crecimiento de la vida, que vienen las lluvias para nutrir la Tierra, que es un tiempo en el que recibimos el alimento necesario para el crecimiento y evolución de nuestro cuerpo y espíritu. One of my teachers on the spiritual path was Carlos, my father, and I remember how one day talking to him he told me that we are made up of a portion of the underworld, another of the world, and a divine part. His teaching was accompanied by the story narrated in the Popol Wuj, which tells us that the Hero Twins Jun Ajpu and Xb’alamke, who managed to overcome all the trials of Xib’alb’a (underworld), were the offspring of the princess Ixkik’ and Jun Junajpu. Ixkik’ is the daughter of Kuchuma Kik’, one of the Great Lords of Xib’alb’a. Jun Junajpu -brother of Wukub’ Junajpu-, is the son of the first grandparents Ixmukane and Xpiyakok, the great sages who were consulted for the creation of the present humanity.

This day reminds us that our being is made up of energies that complement each other, that make us perfect and complete, that we vibrate in harmony when we understand this state of completeness, this unity that exists in ourselves.
