Building upon the successes of past years and in preparing to enter our fifth
year of existence, the Board of Saq' Be' met to strategically plan
out the organization's undertakings for the next twelve months (until
mid year, 2005). As a very small organization, this planning is essential so
we can leverage our limited resources to have the greatest impact and move
towards the highest good. Aside from being created by the Saq' Be' board
of directors, input was sought at length during a recent visit to Guatemala.
While we will aim to stay the course of the plan outlined, we also recognize
the need for flexibility to address opportunities and circumstances as they
arise. Below you will find the Saq' Be' plan for the next year
along with comments on what has been achieved in the past year. Please keep
in mind that the only way we can continue to exist and move towards accomplishing
these goals is with your continued support. And we wish to extend our deepest
gratitude to all of you for supporting this effort and joining with us in achieving
our goals.
We are pleased to announce the second year of our successful membership
program.
This program gives people a way to join in support of Saq' Be' and our mission.
The past year demonstrated the
impact our organization is having in both sharing the important and timely messages
of ancient traditions as well as supporting their rescue and preservation. We
were able to bring a representative of the Mayan tradition to the US several
times. We published articles from that tradition and developed an email list
that now reaches nearly 2,400 people world wide, as well as launched our first
print edition of the SacredRoad Runner. Our website, SacredRoad.org has been
viewed almost 400,000 times in the last year and a half. More people were reached
through numerous interviews given through many different outlets. A foundation
was also laid for implementing more preservation efforts in both Guatemala and
Ecuador.
With much planning and discussion, we have outlined the areas of focus for the organization for the upcoming year. Saq' Be' is a non profit organization operated by young adults on a volunteer basis. The organization was formed at the request of Ajq'ij (Mayan Priest) in Guatemala for the purpose of assisting with the rescue and preservation of traditional science, medicine, culture and spirituality as well as to help open doors for others to learn directly from Native wisdom keepers and communities in a way that is mutually supportive. Part of the vision for the formation of the organization is to reach out to and involve greater numbers of youth and young adults. Saq' Be' is beginning its third year of existence. We are very small, but with a very big mission. We are inviting readers of this website to join together with us in helping to carry out this mission. Below is an outline for the coming year and a brief description of each area:

Since the time of the invasion of the American continents, the traditional culture,
practices and spirituality of its Native inhabitants have been under constant
threat. The devastating effects of colonization, globalization and religious
imposition continue to put Indigenous peoples and their traditional ways at risk
throughout the Americas and around the world. During this period, and in many
cases continuing to this day, Indigenous communities have carefully guarded the
depths of their ancient spirituality from the abuse and exploitation of the invading
cultures. In many cases, spiritual traditions, ceremonies and teachings have
been kept within family and tribal circles, often taught and practiced in ways
that were secretive to outsiders. Many of these traditions maintained, and still
carry prophecies that speak of a time of change upon the earth and the need to
restore a balanced and harmonious relationship between the mother earth and her
inhabitants.
