Kej, the deer, is the guardian of forests and nature, symbolizing tranquility and harmony. It embodies the harmonic tune of creation, manifesting from a spark of a bonfire, a grain of sand, a gentle breeze, or a drop of morning dew to the cosmic dance of the universe. When we understand the influence of cosmic-telluric energies, we see Kej as the force that transmutes all these into the creation of nature, Kej is to see again with new eyes, with another perception. If we have sharpened our senses, we can perceive the world anew: hear the trees and understand other living beings. everything takes on a new perception. We become integrated with all that surrounds us, becoming an integral part of creation.

In the change of cycle to the new K’atun that began on December 21, 2012, the vision of the human being is related to the fifth dimension and this is commanded by the ether element, everything has a more subtle charge. According to this new era, we must reach this vision and become those complete human beings who have managed to return to the consciousness of nature.

Kej is about returning to simplicity and to the essence of things, but with a renewed vision—no longer judging, but fully open and aware. This is the purpose.

Kej es el venado quien es el guardián de los bosques, de la naturaleza; representa la calma, la armonía. Es la sintonía armónica de la creación, manifestada desde una chispa de fuego que sale de una hoguera, un grano de arena, una suave brisa, una gota del rocío en la mañana, hasta la danza cósmica del universo. Al comprender cómo nos influyen las energías cósmico-telúricas, vemos que Kej es la transmutación de todo lo anterior a la creación de la naturaleza, es como retornar a verla con otros ojos, con otra percepción. Si hemos afinado los sentidos, entonces retomamos el ver con otra visión; es cuando los árboles nos hablan, entendemos lo que dicen los otros seres vivos, todo toma otra percepción, estamos integrados a todo lo que nos rodea, nos volvemos parte integral de la creación.

En el cambio de ciclo al nuevo K’atun que inició el 21 diciembre 2012, la visión del ser humano está en relación a la quinta dimensión y esta está comandada por el elemento éter, todo tiene una carga más sutil. Acorde a esta nueva era, debemos alcanzar esta visión y ser esos seres humanos completos que han logrado regresar a la consciencia de la naturaleza.

Kej es regresar a lo simple, lo sencillo, pero con otra visión, ya sin juicios, sino que totalmente abiertos, conscientes, este es el propósito.

The importance of having certainty in life is something you must hold as a premise and a source of confidence, Elder Ramón used to tell me. You can’t walk through life with unconsciousness as your guide. That is why Ajaw Kame is so important—its clearest meaning is death, and that is the only certainty we have: we are born, and one day, we will die.

But Kame is also every transition; it represents the cycles of life, the turns in the spiral of Najt (space-time), which remind us that everything returns—not in the same way, but in a similar form. This happens in a veintena (20 days) or in 260 days, in a Tun (1 year), a K’atun (20 years), in 52 years, and in other cycles that correspond to the span of our lives.

The importance of completing these cycles lies in the fact that, in the end, they are milestones and boundaries for accomplishing things. And although they operate in accordance with the energies, they manifest within a framework of beginnings and endings. One must have great clarity in this sense. Ajaw Kame is, therefore, everything that begins and ends. It is literal physical death, but this doesn’t mean that everything ends when you die—there are other dimensional spaces in which you continue with your purpose. These are dimensions that science is only beginning to glimpse, but for the Elders, they are realities that exist in parallel dimensions.

Keme is a mystery which is not to be feared, for it is a transition of the spirit.

La importancia de tener certeza en la vida es algo que tienes que tener como premisa y seguridad, me decía el abuelo Ramón, es que no puedes ir con la inconsciencia como tu guía, por eso la importancia de Ajaw Kame, su acepción más clara es la muerte y eso es lo único seguro que tenemos: nacemos y un día vamos a morir.

Pero Kame es también toda transición; es los ciclos de la vida, las vueltas en la espiral del Najt (espacio-tiempo) que nos indican que todo retorna, no igual, pero de una forma similar, esto sucede en una veintena o en 260 días, en un Tun (1 año), un K’atun (20 años), en 52 años y más ciclos en relación al tiempo de vida que tenemos.

La importancia del cumplimento de estos ciclos está en que al final estos son metas y límites para realizar las cosas y aunque estos se manejan acorde a las energías, se ven en un orden de un principio y un final, hay que tener mucha claridad en este sentido. Ajaw Kame es pues todo lo que inicia y finaliza. Literalmente es la muerte física, lo que no significa que mueres y todo termina, hay otros espacios dimensionales en donde continuas con tu propósito, son dimensiones que la ciencia apenas empieza a vislumbrar, pero que para los Abuelos y Abuelas son realidades que existen en dimensiones paralelas.

Keme es un misterio, el cual no es para temer, pues es una transición del espíritu.

There is a catalytic energy that transforms—a power that unites the consciousness of visible creation, what exists on the face of Mother Earth, with the subtle creation, the less visible one that arises from the depths of the Cosmos.

In this order, Ajaw Kan offers us today the ability to bring together the manifestation of material-earthly creation with the subtle-cosmic. It is the feathered serpent that takes flight from the earth to the sky—the one that catalyzes, that transforms thought into action, knowledge into wisdom, ceremonial ritual into magic (the capacity to transmute energies). It allows us to elevate our being to the most subtle levels.

In relation to us human beings, this integrating force, this inner fire, is located at the base of the spine (the coccyx), and its movement activates our power centers. Their activation is connected to the 13 main joints, and it is through the power of ceremonial fire that they are developed. Ajaw Kan calls for our attention to integrate our manifestation, both physical and cosmic, in order to understand it, accept it, and thus be able to activate our power and energy in the physical-material world, moving into more sublime realms and reaching full spiritual development.

The magic word is action—it is taking responsibility for our evolution.

En relación a nosotros los seres humanos, esta fuerza integradora, ese fuego interno, está depositado en la base de la columna vertebral (coxis) y su movimiento activa nuestros centros de poder. La activación de estos va ligada a la de las 13 principales coyunturas y es por medio del poder del fuego ceremonial que estos se desarrollan. El Ajaw Kan requiere nuestra atención para integrar nuestra manifestación, tanto física como la cósmica, para entenderla, aceptarla y ser así capaces de activar nuestro poder y energía en el mundo físico-material, avanzando a las estancias más sublimes y alcanzando el pleno desarrollo espiritual.

We’ve spoken about how different realms manifest different spaces of reality—both in the 13 levels of the Uk’u’x Kaj / Heart of the Sky, and in the 9 levels of Xib’alb’a / the Underworld (a space that has nothing to do with the concept of hell). Depending on how we vibrate and the nature of our resonance, we relate more closely to one or the other. The forces more closely associated with the Lords of Xib’alb’a especially influence the spaces we create in our minds, which affect our reality by becoming challenges to overcome. In the same way, the energies that manifest in the realms of Uk’u’x Kaj are of a higher and more subtle vibration, attracting experiences that allow us to evolve within these levels.

The mental state you are holding right now in relation to Ajaw K’at—which is like a net that either catches what belongs to you or entangles and limits you—depends on the attitude with which you set your path, and on the realm you connect and harmonize with the most. The decision is yours.

Hemos hablado de que hay diferentes estancias en las que se manifiestan diferentes espacios de realidad, tanto en los 13 niveles del Uk’u’x Kaj/Corazón del Cielo, como en los 9 niveles del Xib’alb’a/Inframundo (este espacio nada tiene que ver con el infierno). Depende de cómo vibremos y sea nuestra relación de afinidad, nos relacionamos más con uno de los dos. Las fuerzas más relacionadas con los señores de Xib’alb’a influyen especialmente en los espacios que creamos en nuestra mente y que afectan nuestra realidad al convertirse en retos a superar. De igual manera las energías que se manifiestan en las estancias del Uk’u’x Kaj son de una vibración más alta y sutil, que atraen experiencias que nos permiten desarrollarnos en estos niveles.

We are the result of what we have determined in the past, the decisions we have made affect us throughout our life. Have you ever asked yourself: What if I had not done it, if I had decided to do it better? But there is no turning back, you can’t turn time back. Even so, there are ways to harmonize ourselves with the past, to remember our decisions, whether positive or erroneous, which brought us to where we are now. This is the way to take responsibility and awareness of what we have forged. From there we can begin to change, forgive, accept, and define what we really want. We all want to achieve happiness and we hear that this or that gives it to us, but the truth is we that have to live many of these things to realize who we really are and what we want, the idea is clarity.

Ajaw Aq’ab’al is bringing the knowledge of the past to the present and projecting it into the future. It is a new dawn, a new opportunity, and a new vision. It is the power of transformation that tells us that it is never too late to change, but it is no longer just a matter of thinking about change; the energy of this new cycle is ACTION. It’s about correcting what holds us back and putting our experience into action to impel us towards the new. Recapitulating is the key; determining the future is the purpose.

Pero no hay marcha atrás, no se puede devolver el tiempo. Aun así hay formas de armonizarnos con el pasado, de recordar cuáles fueron nuestras decisiones, sean positivas o erradas, para llegar a donde estamos, pues esta es la forma de tomar responsabilidad y conciencia de lo que forjamos. De allí podemos partir para cambiar, perdonar, aceptar y definir lo que realmente queremos. Todos queremos alcanzar la felicidad y escuchamos que esta nos la da esto o lo otro, pero tenemos que vivir muchas de esas cosas para darnos cuenta de quién realmente somos y qué queremos, la idea es la claridad.

Ajaw Aq’ab’al es traer el conocimiento del pasado al presente y proyectarlo al futuro, es un nuevo amanecer, una nueva oportunidad y una nueva visión. Es el poder de la transformación que nos dice que nunca es tarde para cambiar, pero no es solo de pensar en el cambio, la energía de este nuevo ciclo es la ACCIÓN. Es rectificar aquello que nos detiene y poner en acción nuestra experiencia para impulsarnos hacia lo nuevo. Recapitular es la clave, determinar el futuro es el propósito.

Much is said about the power of the mind, about the creation of thought. Many people believe this is something that emerged in recent times, but since the origin of humanity there has been awareness of this creative force. What happens is that, although it may seem contradictory, by thinking too much and giving so much space to academic knowledge, we lost the essence of the power of thought—its creativity. Today, reason is worshipped, and the most important aspect, the essence of the power of thought, has been left aside. We have no idea how thought originates. We know that through electrochemical discharges, the synaptic chain in the brain is generated—an interconnection of millions of our brain cells that outlines and originates a thought, an idea. But we are not aware that this is where the true power lies: in having control over this action and directing those ideas. That is what we call creativity, and it is the beginning of shaping reality. It is because of this power that the elders define us as “creative beings.” Iq’ is one of the Ch’umilab’ that opens the space for us to understand, perceive, and create our own reality—to control and direct thought. Ideas and images are the foundation of this. We must begin by holding onto a single idea, a single image—that is, one thought—because in the West we experience such a level of distraction that our mind jumps from one thought to another without control. We need to learn to control and direct our thoughts. Once we reach this goal, we can, through focused concentration (directed meditation), begin to create our reality.

The power of the mind, of imagination, has no limits, and these become your reality.

Mucho se habla del poder de la mente, de la creación del pensamiento, muchas personas creen que esto es algo que surgió en estos tiempos, pero desde el origen del ser humano se ha tenido conciencia de esta fuerza creadora. Lo que sucede es que, aunque parezca una contradicción, de tanto pensar y darle espacio a conocimiento académico, perdimos la esencia del poder del pensamiento, su creatividad. Hoy es culto a la razón y se dejó de lado el aspecto más importante, la esencia del poder del pensamiento. No tenemos idea de cómo se origina el pensamiento, sabemos que por descargas electroquímicas se genera la cadena sináptica neuronal, es decir una interconexión de millones de nuestras células cerebrales que delinean y originan un pensamiento, una idea. Pero no somos conscientes de que allí está el verdadero poder, en tener control de esta acción y direccionar esas ideas, a eso se le llama creatividad y es el principio de formar la realidad, es por este poder que los abuelos nos definen como “seres creadores”. Iq’ es uno de los Ch’umilab’ que nos abre el espacio para entender, percibir y crear nuestra propia realidad, controlar y direccionar el pensamiento. Las ideas e imágenes son la base de esto. Hay que comenzar por sostener una idea, una sola imagen, es decir un pensamiento, pues en occidente tenemos tal nivel de dispersión que nuestra mente va saltando de un pensamiento al otro sin control. Debemos aprender a controlar y direccionar los pensamientos. Cuando alcancemos este propósito podemos por medio de una concentración (meditación direccionada) comenzar a crear nuestra realidad.

El poder de la mente, la imaginación, no tienen límites y estos se transforman en tu realidad.

Sitting atop a hill after a power walk, I asked Grandfather Pascual why human beings are practically blind to the reality he was showing me. How could we awaken and perceive this profound vision of reality—this magical world where the essence of all things is felt differently, an energetic world that I could barely glimpse with senses that remain closed to most? The wise elder replied: If any Ch’umil offers you an opening to what we call the unknown, it is Ajaw Imox. It connects us to the world of inner powers that we rarely allow to blossom, as we are rooted in a vision that has been imposed on us. A system in which our true nature is essentially limited by the use of reason—because in recent centuries, we have given too much space to rationality and confined our existence within this framework. We have forgotten that we possess other senses that allow us to perceive a world closer to the essence of creation. Our purpose now is to develop these senses and, in doing so, to find our purpose—because the complete human being is not a utopia; it is a reality that has been hidden from us.

The teaching of Ajaw Imox is one of openness to the unknown. This Ch’umil is the one who activates the dormant senses and gives us the determination to reach and complete our level as humans. It helps us to define and create our reality. Imox is the correct path to break the structures that prevent us from “seeing” and to place ourselves in this dimension with our integral being.

The only thing that is not valid in our journey is to remain stagnant.

Sentados en lo alto de un cerro, luego de una caminata de poder, le pregunté al abuelo Pascual la razón por la cual los seres humanos estamos prácticamente ciegos ante la realidad que él me estaba enseñando. Cómo podríamos nosotros despertar y visualizar esta profunda visión de la realidad, este mundo mágico en el que se percibía de diferente forma la esencia de todas las cosas, un mundo energético que apenas vislumbraba con los sentidos que permanecen cerrados para la mayoría. El sabio respondió: Si algún Ch’umil te da una apertura a lo que llamamos desconocido es Ajaw Imox, este nos conecta al mundo de los poderes internos que rara vez dejamos florecer, pues estamos arraigados a una visión que nos han impuesto. Un orden en el que nuestra verdadera naturaleza está limitada, en esencia por el uso de la razón, pues en los últimos siglos le dimos mucho espacio al razonamiento y encuadramos nuestra existencia en esta visión, nos olvidamos que tenemos otros sentidos que nos permiten percibir un mundo más cercano a la esencia de la creación. Nuestro propósito ahora es desarrollar estos sentidos y por lo tanto encontrar nuestro propósito, pues el ser humano completo no es una utopía, es una realidad que nos ha sido vedada.

La enseñanza de Ajaw Imox es de apertura a lo desconocido. Este Ch’umil es quien activa los sentidos dormidos y nos da la determinación para alcanzar y completar nuestro nivel como humanos. Nos ayuda a definir y crear nuestra realidad. Imox es el camino adecuado para romper las estructuras que nos impiden “ver” y ubicarnos en esta dimensión con nuestro ser integral.

Lo único que no se vale en el camino es quedarnos estancados.

The day of Ajaw Ajpu, or Father Sun’s day, manifests its splendor today. We have previously pointed out that it is important to witness the sunrise, the sunset, as well as the Sun’s passage through the Zenith at the center of the celestial vault, its movement through the Nadir, and also each intermediate point between these—because this gives us a reference for how the cycle that opens before the reality we live in is unfolding. It is Grandfather Sun who guides us, who gives us strength; for our existence is tied to his emanation. That is why our actions must carry the projection of the destiny we seek. This is not something to take lightly, and as the Elders always remind us, it is our responsibility. The awareness of this moment gives us a special power—determination is the key.

Ajaw Ajpu is clarity, certainty, strength, power, magnetism, and cleverness. It is also about facing everything with courage. The determination carried by this Ch’umil is an energy to be used for our benefit; it grants us the wisdom and strength to overcome the obstacles in life.

The inner light of each being is in harmony with that of the Heart of the Sky, of Father Sun.

El día de Ajaw Ajpu o día del Padre Sol hoy manifiesta su esplendor. Antes hemos apuntado que hay que ver el amanecer, que es importante el atardecer, al igual que su paso por el cénit en el centro de la bóveda celeste, su paso por el nadir y también cada paso intermedio entre estos, porque eso nos da la referencia de cómo viene el ciclo que se abre ante la realidad que vivimos. Es el abuelo Sol quien nos guía, nos da fuerza; pues nuestra existencia está ligada a su emanación. De ahí que nuestras acciones deben tener la proyección del destino que queremos. No es algo a tomar a la ligera y, como siempre nos indican los abuelos y abuelas, es nuestra responsabilidad. La consciencia de este momento nos da un poder especial, la determinación es la clave.

Ajaw Ajpu es la claridad, la certeza, la fuerza, el poder, el magnetismo y la astucia. Es también el enfrentar todo con entereza. La determinación con que se presenta este Ch’umil es una energía a utilizar para nuestro beneficio, nos da la sabiduría y fortaleza para vencer los obstáculos en la vida.

La luz interna de cada ser esta en concordancia con la del Corazón del Cielo, del Padre Sol.

Is that “sense of belonging in life” necessary for your development as a human being and for your spiritual work, or does individuality offer more freedom to reach that sense of fulfillment?

There are two aspects. One is the education with which we are shaped—this is inherently communal. Our formation within the family, our studies, our work—everything revolves around society. The difficulty is that its values are essentially materialistic. There is little concern for the common good; we have lost that value, and spiritual evolution is given little importance. Success is more often measured in economic, physical, and academic terms. On the other hand, there are individualistic people who renounce the communal aspect. Although they interact with others, they do not feel part of any social or ethnic group—and often not even part of their own family. In such cases, a sense of selfishness tends to dominate, leading to isolation, and rarely is this directed toward genuine inner or spiritual development.

The truth is that for our growth, we need both aspects. Human beings have an individual phase, and our destiny is our own responsibility. No one else can live our life—they can support our path, teach us—but in the end, it is each of us who governs our own destiny. Each of us holds the responsibility for our life’s purpose—we cannot place it on anyone else, absolutely no one. Along the way, we encounter exactly what we need in order to evolve: obstacles, trials, challenges, everything that delays us in this unfolding; but also the positive aspects, the people and situations that support our evolution. There is also our communal phase. Our environment, our destiny, and our evolution are deeply connected to our family, our community, our country, our ethnic roots, and ultimately to all of humanity. Therefore, we have to take responsibility for the things we must do, but also have clarity in order not to let ourselves be dragged by situations that are not ours to bear.

Being an individual is a responsibility of your being, it is entirely yours. Being part of a community means becoming a light that guides others.

¿Es necesario ese “sentido de pertenencia en la vida” para tu desarrollo como ser humano y para tu trabajo espiritual, o el ser individual te da más libertad para alcanzar esa plenitud?

Hay dos aspectos, uno es el la educación con que nos formamos, esta es inminentemente comunitaria. Nuestra formación en el seno de la familia; el estudio, el trabajo, todo gira en torno a la sociedad. La dificultad es que sus valores son esencialmente materialistas, poco preocupa el bien común, perdimos ese valor y se da poca importancia a la evolución espiritual, el éxito está más enfocado a lo económico, físico y académico. Por otra parte hay personas individualistas, que renuncian a lo comunitario, aunque interactúan con los demás humanos, no se sienten parte de ningún grupo social, étnico y muchas veces ni familiar. En este domina el sentido de egoísmo que tiende al aislamiento y pocas veces este va orientado al valor para el desarrollo interno, espiritual.

La realidad es que para nuestro desarrollo necesitamos de ambos. Los seres humanos tenemos una fase individual y nuestro destino es únicamente nuestra responsabilidad, pues nadie puede vivir nuestra vida, si mucho apoyar el camino, enseñarnos, pero al final es uno quien rige su destino, uno tiene la responsabilidad de su propósito en la vida, no se la puede endilgar a nadie, absolutamente a nadie, y en el camino encontramos justo lo que necesitamos para evolucionar: obstáculos, pruebas, retos, todo lo que nos retrasa en este devenir, pero también los aspectos positivos, las personas y situaciones que ayudan a nuestra evolución. También está nuestra fase comunitaria, nuestro entorno, destino y evolución estan ligados a la familia, a la comunidad, a nuestro país, etnia y en general a la humanidad. De esto tenemos que tomar responsabilidad, de lo que nos corresponde hacer, pero también tener claridad para no dejarnos arrastrar por situaciones que no nos corresponden.

El ser un individuo es la responsabilidad de tu ser, es únicamente tuya. El ser parte de la comunidad es para ser una luz que guía a los demás.

There are many things in life that limit you, that keep you stuck—people who divert you from your goals. There are also situations or individuals who make you dependent on them and don’t allow you to grow or live with the resources you need, whether economic or in terms of opportunities. We have bad habits and are often unable to make decisions that would allow us to change our destiny. This can happen to us to a greater or lesser extent, and many people don’t even allow themselves to see that something is affecting them. Today’s energy allows us to recognize everything that limits us, even those situations or feelings we do not give the importance they deserve. We tend to minimize them, yet they are present, and they still affect us. What is important is to determine them with clarity and begin to set priorities. It is about being impeccable when facing each of the things that affect us, especially with each person to whom we have granted such power. Today we can take a deep look at how we act and see what we want to change—everything is possible; it simply deserves our attention. The strategy lies in our attitude. Remember that we are the architects of our reality. Change comes from within us, from truly wanting it to happen.

Ajaw Tijax opens spaces for new challenges, for a new way of perceiving reality. It opens spaces to other physical, mental, and spiritual dimensions.

Tenemos malos hábitos y somos incapaces de tomar decisiones que nos permitan cambiar nuestro destino, esto puede sucedernos en mayor o menor grado, muchas personas ni siquiera se permiten ver que hay algo que les afecta. La energía de hoy nos permite encontrar todo lo que nos limita, incluso esas situaciones o sentimientos a los que no damos la importancia que merecen, las minimizamos, sin embargo están allí e igual nos afectan. Lo importante es determinar con claridad e ir dando prioridades, se trata de ser impecable al enfrentar cada una de las cosas que nos afectan, en especial con cada persona a la que nosotros mismos le hemos permitido tener ese poder. Hoy podemos revisar profundamente cómo actuamos y ver que queremos cambiar, todo es posible, sólo merece nuestra atención. La estrategia tiene que ver con nuestra actitud. Recuerda que somos los artífices de nuestra realidad. El cambio viene de nosotros, de realmente querer que este suceda.
