According to the Maya, the world was created in one Mayan month (twenty days). The process of creation begins on Jun (1) B’atz and ends on the day Wuqub’ (7) Tz’i’, completing the first twenty days of the Cholq’ij (Calendar of Life). After this final day of creation, the day Wajxaqib’ (8) B’atz’ arrives, which is considered the Cholq’ij New Year. When Maya people celebrate the Cholq’ij new year, they are celebrating that the creation of the world has been fulfilled, and the beginning of a new cycle of 260 days.
B’atz’ symbolizes the thread with which we weave the story of our life; the way we evolve as human beings. Number 1 represents the beginning and unity. The energies of this day offer you the possibility of reinventing yourself in this new cycle. This is the first day of the B’atz’ trecena (thirteen days) and it is also the first day of Maya creation.
The book of the Chilam B’alam of Chumayel explains the creation of the universe. It tells that the world was created in one Maya month (20 days). The process of creation begins on the day 1 B’atz’ and ends in a day 7 Tz’i’, when the first 20 days are completed. After the last day of creation -7 Tz’i’- comes the day 8 B’atz’ (Cholq’ij Maya New Year). When Maya people celebrate their new year, they celebrate that the creation of the world has been fulfilled. The Chilam B’alam of Chumayel says: “…Anciently when the world had not awakened, the month was born and it started to walk on its own… the name of the day was also born… The day 1 B’atz’ used its own divinity to crate the sky and the earth.”

During the last couple of years I have allowed falseness to crumble, as I envisioned and dreamed a new career, a new life, one of authenticity and renewal. I had a very difficult time in many ways with obstacles on the physical and relational levels. Even though raised in a painful family, the adversity gave me courage and strength to never forget and always remember my true purpose, to love myself first. I was unknowingly letting my energy wane by protecting others who were hurting me. I did not realize at first that they could not determine my value. Only I could break the ties that bound me to the patterns that prevented me from thriving. It is remarkable what we can endure when our eyes are on the prize of wholesomeness and wholeness. I did not have to explain my actions to anyone but the Creator, and then I was also able to divulge my gratitude to my mentor whose responses over time held space for my happiness. I was born on Batz and the synchronicity of being able to clarify the essence and meaning of who I am at this time is reflected generously in today’s explanation of the new beginning and the thread. The timing is uncanny, as I just received a wave of validation and support from the Universe. Surely, I have been following the golden thread all these years, and it is rather wonderful to be a person who loves wearing, working with and weaving beauty with the threads of fiber, in art, fashion and language. All this I do using my own divinity which helps me heal from all lower vibrational interludes. For the rest of my life I will be kind to myself, have compassion for the path I am on and allow happiness to be a significant part of my days. Meaning is found within, and now I have stopped seeking for it in others. I show up and bring the meaning of my life with me wherever I go. With gratitude and joy, Eliszabeth
