Category Archives: Mayan Calendar (Cholq’ij)

NOTE: SAQ’ BE’ IS NOT CURRENTLY DISTRIBUTING CHOLQ’IJ CALENDARS. THIS IS HERE FOR INFORMATION PURPOSES ONLY.

As many of you know, every year Saq’ Be’ travels to the community in Chichicastenango, Guatemala to pick up the traditional Mayan Cholq’ij calendars they produce. We return with them and make them available for sale, returning the profits to the community to support their continued efforts to keep the traditional ways alive. Unfortunately, we do not know when we will be able to return this year and are thus uncertain as to when the 2005 calendars will become available. As a way of compensating for our lack of hard copy calendars, we are making available the same Cholq’ij/ Gregorian overlay on our website, which can be viewed on the front page. We have also made available information on the meaning of the Nawales (glyphs) and numbers presented. Click “read more” to view additional infromation on this calendar. We ask you to please consider supporting Saq’ Be’, a nonprofit organization, by making a tax-exempt donation to assist with our continued efforts for the rescue, preservation and appropriate sharing of these living ancient peoples, traditions and cultures.

7 Kame – Today’s Maya Day Sign (Nawal)

Nawal KemeKame has the power of our ancestors; it represents our mission and actions before the Creator and Maker, who has all the knowledge. Number 7 projects intuition, analysis and introspection. The ancient traditions that have managed to survive are those that honored their ancestors and learned from their teachings and their wisdom. This is the time for us to develop our knowledge and understand our transcendence in life, understand that we are leaving a legacy for future generations. Your contribution to the community is very valuable.

6 Kan – Today’s Maya Day Sign (Nawal)

Nawal KanKan symbolizes the strength of the Universe, the power and force of the serpent; however, today it converges with number 6 that represents imbalances that may affect us in the physical world. Watch your level of energy, for this day may bring energetic highs and lows. Ask Nawal Kan to balance your energy, and connect to Ajpu, the Nawal that rules over this trecena (thirteen days), to obtain the strength of the spiritual warrior.

5 K’at – Today’s Maya Day Sign (Nawal)

Nawal K'atK’at symbolizes the net that can be thrown into the water to fish or that can be used to entangle our own selves; it means that everyone shapes their own thoughts either in a positive or in a negative way.  Number 5 is an energy that allows you to achieve anything you set your mind to. On this day you can catch all your dreams if you believe it, if you use your thoughts to attract and trap positive things.
