As many of you know, every year Saq’ Be’ travels to the community in Chichicastenango, Guatemala to pick up the traditional Mayan Cholq’ij calendars they produce. We return with them and make them available for sale, returning the profits to the community to support their continued efforts to keep the traditional ways alive. Unfortunately, we do not know when we will be able to return this year and are thus uncertain as to when the 2005 calendars will become available. As a way of compensating for our lack of hard copy calendars, we are making available the same Cholq’ij/ Gregorian overlay on our website, which can be viewed on the front page. We have also made available information on the meaning of the Nawales (glyphs) and numbers presented. Click “read more” to view additional infromation on this calendar. 2 Toj- Today’s Ch’umil
This is a special day to thank the Creator with an offering, thank Him for everything you have, the opportunities you have received throughout your life and for what is still ahead. Today thank Him especially for your relationships, ask for love and understanding with your love partner. Toj represents gratefulness to the Creator; number 2 brings the energy of union and relationships.
1 Q’anil- Today’s Ch’umil
Q’anil represents the seed of life, the energy of creation; number which 1 brings the power of unity, it is the beginning. Scatter many seeds of love during the course of your passage through this day, and without doubt all the good actions you may plant today will bring positive fruits into your life. This is the first day of the Q’anil trecena (thirteen days) ask this Ch’umil that everything you plant during these days will bring you joy and abundance.
13 Kej- Today’s Ch’umil
Number 13 marks the end of a cycle that is balanced by the power of Kej, which represents solidity and stability. Kej is the deer that has one foot in each of the cardinal points, gather the energy the deer will bring you from each of the four corners of the world. This is the last day of the Tz’ikin trecena (thirteen days) thank Tz’ikin for the vision, luck and love it has brought to you during these days.
12 Kame- Today’s Ch’umil
Kame is the energy of our spiritual family and our lineage; it has the power of our ancestors, who protect us and guide us throughout our life. Number 12 represents the consciousness of being. This is a good day to ask the Creator that these Grandfathers and Grandmothers can transmit their ancestral wisdom and point you in the direction you need to take in your search for spiritual enlightenment.
11 Kan- Today’s Ch’umil
Kan represents energy and movement and today it converges with number 11, which brings tests of a spiritual and mental order. Focus the energy of Kan into transmuting the challenges into knowledge and wisdom. Take a moment tonight to meditate on what experience has taught you.
10 K’at- Today’s Ch’umil
Today number 10 allows the energy to flow, speeding along your projects, activities and aspirations. K’at represents the net that can group and bring together the people and elements you need to move ahead. Use the energy of K’at to capture the new life experiences that await you!
9 Aq’ab’al- Today’s Ch’umil
Aq’ab’al represents the last ray of light in the darkness; number 9 brings the power of love, compassion and spirituality that can be used to help others. Use the energy of this day to bring a ray of sunshine into people’s life… be the light that guides others.
8 Iq’- Today’s Ch’umil
Iq’ has the virtue of purifying our mind and spirit and nourishing our thoughts. Receive the renewing energy of the wind and open your mind to its lucid ideas and positive energy. Ask the creative energy of number 8 to use the winds of Iq’ to inspire you and stimulate your imagination.
