KAB’LAJUJ AJ ~ Today’s Ch’umil

Nawal AjAj reminds us that we can always grow anew.

Reflecting today on how Junajpu e Xb’alamke planted a cane in the home of their grandmother Ixmukane as a sign of their life and as a messenger between two places, their home and Xib’alb’a, I think about how this story from the Popol Wuj speaks to the energy of this Ch’umil. Rooted in the home, the cane, like us, becomes a bridge to other realms. Aj also speaks to our capacity to renew ourselves, to our ability to grow and transform through each experience. As it converges with the trecena of Iq’, it invites us to be creative, to imagine new possibilities, and to remember that reinventing ourselves does not mean ceasing to be who we are, but discovering all that we can still become.
