JOB’ AQ’AB’AL ~ Today’s Ch’umil

Nawal Aq'ab'alToday, the teaching of the Sun leaves us with a simple yet profound question: What are you going to do with this day? For each day offers us a new opportunity to live.

Ancestral cultures such as the Maya gave great importance to the phases of the Sun, for they were deeply aware of the influence each of its cycles has on Mother Earth and on each one of us. Today we receive the teaching of the Sun embodied in Ajaw Aq’ab’al, which brings us the strength of both dawn and dusk. It reminds us that the Sun moves forward, radiating its light from sunrise to sunset, and that in this journey it shows us the importance of moving forward as well on the path of our own existence.

This Ch’umil invites us to give thanks for the life that is renewed with each dawn and for the opportunities that unfold before us with each new day. As dusk arrives, it also invites us to set aside a moment for contemplation and reflection, to meditate on the experiences of the day and in doing so become more aware of our path through this life. On this day, when Aq’ab’al converges with Job’, an energy that speaks to us of the importance of taking action, of making the most of every moment and every opportunity that life offers us, we are reminded that it is our experiences and living with presence that shape us into wise beings.
